January seems to be a very reflective time for many creatives - the hibernating days of winter are almost over and it is time to blow the cobwebs away ! I find that taking a look at old work and poring over old sketchbooks helps to break the spell and launch back in to the creative flow. Recently I've been taking part in ArtChain on Facebook and included are some pics from a summer sculpture exhibition held in my garden during the summer of 2009. I have enjoyed looking back at this work and it seems a good place to start my new blog posts.
Titled Nightshade, and supporting the local childrens' hospice Rainbows, myself and two other artists Jackie Palmer and Nita Rau exhibited a selection of garden sculptures and installations. We were blessed by beautiful sunshine all week and with many fabulous visitors attending raised over £2000 for the charity. Reflecting on this has inspired me to rework the featured wire sculpture which remained in the garden from that exhibition all these years. It is easy to be seduced by new and exciting skills and then years later realise that some of the abandoned creations were actually rather good.
